TULSI LOHANI

hi! My name is

AND I LOVE TO LEARN ABOUT HOW
WE COMMUNICATE AS HUMANS.

  • Through my professional and academic experiences and drive to learn and
improve my skills, I have grown my skills and produced high-quality
multimedia deliverables for journalism and communications projects.

  • This site hosts several of my award-winning and impactful experiences,
from the halls of Congress to the hillsides of working-class America. I
would love to connect and chat about the world over coffee.
  • I am currently seeking roles in Communications
and Public Relations, and I appreciate any advice
    or tips sent my way.

I’m always the one who raises
his hand in the classroom.

Sometimes, it is to answer the professor’s question, volunteer for an opportunity, or offer to help
fix a technology issue. Perhaps it is my regret for staying silent or my desire to help.

But I always raise my hand.

One of the tenets of journalism and corporate communications that intrigues me is the ability to
specialize in topics that resonate personally and professionally and share them with others. In
the past, that has been politics, student life, and culture.

While at SMU, I have been fortunate to grow as a leader and scholar. I have been a two-time
Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) Award-winning student journalist since my time as
an assistant producer on SMU Television. I have traveled and lived across the U.S. to learn more,
and to immerse myself in the communications world.

I was awarded the Belo Foundation Scholarship by the SMU Department of Journalism, the
highest and most prestigious award, for my contributions and potential to become a future top
media professional. I also attended SMU on the Hunt Leadership Scholarship, one of 21 incoming
students selected from an applicant pool of 900 high school seniors for my demonstrated and
potential leadership qualities.

Covering and understanding the communications politics of news stories through writing has
allowed me to understand the intricacies of the media landscape and the importance of a
balanced perspective.

Outside of journalism, I have also worked on Capitol Hill for Federal Network to produce
multimedia content on Congressional hearings and press conferences at the Texas House of
Representatives, Amazon, and higher education programs at SMU.

In my free time, I volunteer and serve on the Board of Directors for a Dallas non-profit, March to
the Polls, to bring non-partisan civic education programs to DFW high schools.
